Immigration to Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of Asia's leading financial centers, offering a low-tax regime, world-class infrastructure, and a strategic gateway to mainland China and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The city attracts top talent, entrepreneurs, and investors through several well-defined immigration programs.

General Employment Policy (GEP)

The GEP is Hong Kong's main work visa for professionals with skills, knowledge, or experience not readily available locally. You need a confirmed job offer from a Hong Kong employer, relevant qualifications and experience, and a salary broadly commensurate with the prevailing market rate. There are no quota restrictions, and the visa is typically issued for 2 years initially.

Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS)

The QMAS is a points-based immigration scheme that allows highly skilled or talented individuals to settle in Hong Kong without a prior job offer. Applicants are assessed under either the General Points Test (based on age, qualifications, work experience, language, and family background) or the Achievement-Based Points Test (for exceptional talent). Successful applicants receive a 1-year visa, extendable upon demonstrating steps to settle in Hong Kong.

Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS)

Launched in 2022, the TTPS targets top earners and graduates from the world's leading universities. There are three categories: individuals earning HKD 2.5 million or more in the past year, graduates from the top 100 universities with at least 3 years' work experience, and fresh graduates from top 100 universities (subject to an annual quota). The initial visa is granted for 2 years.

Technology Talent Admission Scheme (TechTAS)

TechTAS provides a fast-track arrangement for eligible technology companies to admit non-local technology talent in specific areas, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, fintech, and biotechnology. Companies must first apply for a quota, after which individual visa applications are processed on a streamlined basis.

Investment Visa & Capital Investment Entrant Scheme

Entrepreneurs can apply under the GEP to establish or join a business in Hong Kong. The Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (CIES), relaunched in 2024, allows individuals to obtain residency by investing a minimum of HKD 30 million in permissible financial and non-residential real estate assets in Hong Kong.

Dependant Visa & Permanent Residency

Work visa holders can sponsor their spouse and unmarried dependent children under 18 for a Dependant visa. Dependants are allowed to work in Hong Kong without restrictions. After 7 years of continuous ordinary residence in Hong Kong on any valid visa, you can apply for the Right of Abode, which is equivalent to permanent residency and comes with full rights, including the right to vote.
